Our Sustainability Commitment

Restoring Nature, Culture and Communities Through Craft

At eQueen Handicraft, sustainability is not simply about reducing environmental impact. It is about restoring balance between people, ecosystems and traditional knowledge in the Mekong Delta of southern Vietnam.

Our collections are developed through a circular craft model created by ECOKA Joint Stock Company, where natural materials, artisan skills and regional landscapes work together to support long-term environmental and social resilience.

Each product represents a step towards a more regenerative way of living.

Environmental Responsibility

Working with Nature, Not Against It

Our primary materials — water hyacinth, seagrass and natural cotton — are renewable plant fibers grown across river landscapes of the Mekong Delta.

Among them, water hyacinth plays a particularly important ecological role.

When responsibly harvested, this fast-growing river plant contributes to:

  • restoring freshwater ecosystems
  • creating natural shelter and breeding environments for Mekong river fish
  • filtering pollutants from waterways
  • absorbing carbon from the atmosphere
  • supporting climate resilience in wetland environments

By transforming water hyacinth into handcrafted homeware, we help convert an abundant aquatic plant into a resource that supports both environmental recovery and sustainable livelihoods.

Each woven product therefore carries the living character of the Mekong river system.

Designing Alternatives to Plastic-Based Living

All eQueen Handicraft collections are created as biodegradable alternatives to synthetic household materials.

We prioritise natural fibers that:

  • return safely to nature at the end of their lifecycle
  • require minimal industrial processing
  • reduce dependence on petroleum-based plastics
  • support circular resource systems

Through everyday objects such as baskets, table accessories and decorative textiles, we aim to make sustainable choices accessible inside modern homes.

Supporting Climate Adaptation in the Mekong Delta

The Mekong Delta is one of the regions most affected globally by climate change.

Communities across the region are adapting through new combinations of agriculture, craft production and circular material use.

By creating international markets for natural-fibre handicrafts, we help strengthen climate-resilient livelihoods that remain rooted in local ecosystems rather than extractive industrial systems.

Craft becomes part of environmental adaptation.

Social Responsibility

Preserving Craft Villages and Cultural Heritage

Traditional weaving is more than a production method in the Mekong Delta. It is part of the region’s cultural identity.

Through long-term partnerships with artisan households, eQueen Handicraft supports:

  • preservation of indigenous weaving knowledge
  • continuity of traditional craft villages
  • income opportunities for women artisans
  • intergenerational skill transmission
  • improved access to education for children in rural communities

By connecting global homes with local craft heritage, we help ensure that these traditions remain living practices rather than disappearing skills.

Supporting Women and Rural Livelihoods

Many of our artisan partners are women working from village-based weaving networks across the Mekong Delta.

This decentralised craft model allows flexible income generation close to home while strengthening family stability and community resilience.

Through responsible production partnerships, we aim to:

  • expand inclusive employment opportunities
  • strengthen village economies
  • reduce migration pressure from rural areas
  • support long-term social sustainability

Behind every handmade piece is a story of skill, dignity and continuity.

Governance and Responsible Production

From Circular Economy to Regenerative Craft Systems

Our sustainability strategy is guided by a transition from circular production towards a regenerative economic model.

This approach focuses on three interconnected priorities:

Regenerating ecosystems

Through responsible harvesting of renewable plant fibers that support river restoration and biodiversity protection.

Regenerating cultural heritage

By preserving traditional weaving knowledge and strengthening craft-based village economies.

Regenerating human values

By supporting ethical employment, inclusive livelihoods and long-term community wellbeing.

This framework ensures that sustainability extends beyond materials into the wider systems that shape how products are made.

Carbon Landscape Commitment

We are currently working with regional partners to establish carbon certification for more than 300 hectares of natural material-growing land surrounding our production area in the Mekong Delta.

This initiative strengthens:

  • environmental traceability
  • climate accountability
  • ecosystem protection
  • participation in future carbon markets
  • alignment with international ESG expectations

It represents an important step in connecting traditional craft production with global climate responsibility.

A Regenerative Approach to Home Living

At eQueen Handicraft, sustainability is not only about what products are made from.

It is about what they support.

Each piece contributes to:

restored waterways
preserved craft heritage
stronger rural communities
and more responsible global consumption

From the Mekong Delta to homes around the world, our work reflects a belief that design can help regenerate the systems we depend on.
