Natural Fibers Rooted in the Mekong Delta
At eQueen Handicraft, materials are not simply chosen for their appearance or durability. They are selected for their relationship with landscapes, ecosystems and communities across the Mekong Delta of southern Vietnam.
We work primarily with renewable plant fibers that grow naturally within river and wetland environments shaped over thousands of years by the Mekong River.
By choosing these materials, we support a production model that connects homes around the world with ecosystems that continue to sustain life in one of Southeast Asia’s most important river regions.
Water Hyacinth
A River Fibre Supporting Ecosystem Restoration
Water hyacinth is at the heart of many of our collections and plays a central role in our regenerative material strategy.
Although often described as an invasive aquatic plant, water hyacinth contributes significantly to the ecological balance of freshwater systems when responsibly managed.
Across the Mekong Delta, this river plant helps:
- restore underwater ecosystems
- provide shelter and breeding habitats for Mekong river fish
- absorb carbon from the atmosphere
- improve water quality by filtering pollutants
- strengthen climate resilience in wetland environments
By transforming water hyacinth into handcrafted homeware, we convert a fast-growing natural resource into long-lasting objects that support both environmental recovery and rural livelihoods.
Each woven piece carries the living character of the Mekong river landscape.
Seagrass
A Renewable Fibre from Coastal Wetlands
Seagrass has been used for generations by weaving communities across southern Vietnam.
It grows naturally in coastal wetlands and river-adjacent agricultural areas, regenerates quickly after harvesting and requires minimal industrial processing.
As part of our material system, seagrass supports:
- low-impact fibre harvesting
- resilient wetland ecosystems
- reduced reliance on synthetic materials
- long-lasting woven structures for everyday use
Its natural strength and flexibility make it especially suitable for storage baskets, placemats and interior accessories designed for daily living.
Natural Cotton
Soft Structure for Textile Craft Traditions
Our macramé collections are produced using natural cotton fibers selected for comfort, durability and compatibility with biodegradable product lifecycles.
Cotton has long been associated with decorative textile traditions across Southeast Asia and continues to support hand-knotting techniques used in:
- wall décor
- curtains
- table runners
- soft home accessories
Through careful fibre selection, our textile collections balance softness with structural integrity while remaining aligned with circular material principles.
Materials That Preserve Cultural Identity
Natural fibers are deeply connected to the cultural heritage of the Mekong Delta.
For generations, communities have transformed river plants and agricultural fibers into objects for everyday living. These materials reflect both environmental adaptation and local creativity shaped by water-based landscapes.
By continuing to work with water hyacinth, seagrass and cotton, we help preserve traditional craft knowledge and support the long-term continuity of village-based weaving cultures.
Each material carries a story shaped by place, people and time.
Supporting Circular and Regenerative Material Systems
Our fibre sourcing approach follows a circular production philosophy developed by ECOKA Joint Stock Company and continues to evolve towards a regenerative material strategy.
This approach supports:
- renewable plant-based raw materials
- ecosystem restoration through responsible harvesting
- reduced dependence on plastic-based alternatives
- decentralised artisan production networks
- biodegradable product lifecycles
We are also working with regional partners to establish carbon certification for more than 300 hectares of natural material-growing land surrounding our production area, strengthening traceability and climate accountability across our supply chain.
From River Landscapes to Responsible Homes
The materials used in each eQueen Handicraft collection begin their journey in riverbanks, wetlands and craft villages across the Mekong Delta.
By choosing natural fibers shaped by these landscapes, we create products that support environmental renewal, cultural continuity and more thoughtful ways of living.
Natural materials do more than decorate a home.
They connect it to the world beyond it.
